I've been wondering the very same thing this week. I'm interested, but I love beans. Does primal allow for them?

From what I understand, primal allows for minimal dairy (such as Greek yogurt, heavy cream and goat cheese), dark chocolate and red wine.

Neither advocate legumes.

Primal is a little more lenient. Greek yogurt, wine and dark chocolate. Paleo allows for a little alcohol, but zero dairy and dark chocolate is ok. They are fairly similar...but if you want to get to "pure" paleo you are pretty much eating tons of veggies, some low glycemic fruit, grassfed meats, and fatty fish- and that would be about it. No legumes and no grains on either.

Its been weeks for us with paleo and I feel so good. I have a hard time declaring I am eating XYZ way..I know the paleo model and try to stick to it. But I need half and half in my coffee...I have had some wine this week and some dark chocolate. The weight is falling off, I feel AWESOME, my head is clear and I have no cravings anymore for sweet sugary things. That is a huge thing because I tend to be a stress eater, and I think my body isn't reacting to stress like it did before...because I have a million stressful things happening but having no issues with eating clean. Well, aside from a glass or two of wine in the evening.

Here is how Mark Sisson, the author of the Primal Blueprint, has explained the differences. Of course, he is writing in support of his own philosophy.

My understanding is what was mentioned above too, with dairy and all.

I started off paleo, and then when dairy didn't seem to do anything to me, I added it back in. Basically, I just cut out everything refined and grainish. It took about a month for my body to adjust to the difference in diet and for the carb cravings to go away. But then, oh my goodness. I think I lost 30 pounds in 2 months. It was great! I ate that way until I became pregnant and all I could stomach was bread.

Does anyone have resources on how to transition your family into eating paleo or primal? I really need to clean up our eating... I'm worried about the expense and the fact that two of my boys seem to exist soley on bread.

There's a new book out called Eat Like a Dinosaur that looks good. It explains Paleo eating to children and provides manyy recipes that are kid oriented.

I was thinking of doing another Whole 30 challenge in June. Anyone interested in joining?

The best part of paleo eating to me is focusing on nutrient rich foods. When the body is getting full on those , the desire for other things drops off significantly.

Ooooh, thanks for the book recommendation - even though my DD is 3 years old I think she'd like the "concept"

But yes, I'd love to do a Whole 30 with you in June! Do you have the Success Guide? I got it months ago and have tried a few recipes out of it but haven't "taken the plunge" yet

Have you looking into the underwhelmed GAPs guide - not the exact same program as Paleo or Primal BUT it gives ideas about how to "transition"

Have heard lots of people comment positively on Eat like A Dinosaur. I keep contemplating purchasing it.

I have been slowly transitioning my kids to better eating. Mostly by setting firm food boundaries (sensory issues are not at play here, just pickiness). They have really improved on eating (or at least tasting) what is served, and eating a wider variety. However, grains are still a huge part of their diet and I would like to cut it out. Tonight I am going to offer teryaki chicken, broccoli, and pinneapple with no rice and see what happens.

What is Whole 30?

My goal is not to adhere to anyone one diet. I tend to do very badly when I have a set of rules to follow. I am however looking for a low to no grian diet, so I thought incorporating a few Paelo or Primal recipes would help with that.
