Unprepared for Parenting (Ezzos, Pearls, Etc.) *Public* Support and information for those affected by the Ezzos, the Pearls, and other punitive and adversarial methods of child-rearing.
A public forum.
Before posting here, please read this sticky and keep guideline 23 in mind:

23. No posts harshly dissecting parenting moments of others since we desire to humbly cultivate a heart attitude of grace and not judgment towards other mamas. We all struggle at times as parents and have much to learn, and GCM's focus is to provide tools and information for each of us to parent more effectively. Posts voicing some frustration regarding choices made by others can be okay, but it needs to be within the overall context of seeking understanding or ideas for better responses in the future.

This mama, Jenn, was interviewed for the story.

She has her experiences with Babywise written up here.

Well, if they are getting those stats from Ezzo, Ezzo is known to. . . well. . . exaggerate.

Thanks for the overview. *grin*

I checked all of the Ezzo books out from the library today (someone must have donated the whole -Wise series.) I'm finally going to get to compare/contrast the '98 / '01 versions of BW.

Ummm, I would believe that stat. At least "read the book/marginally used" as my SIL does.

The story transcript is online now. I can't give a direct URL. Go to http://www.fox2ktvi.com/, in the left sidebar click on "News" and then on "Fox Files." It's currently the top story.

Hurray! Hopefully some moms and dads-to-be watched and won't read the books, or at least will know there's another side!

and there was a clip of I assume a dr saying "babies have starved to death".
I just need to say this, as I always do. People sometimes say this but as far as I know, there are no documented cases. (Thank God--though on the other hand if a baby has died, it would be good to have it documented so that other parents could be warned.)

I believe the transcript of the program didn't state that babies have died, but worded it more accurately about babies being at risk. Honestly, I think the doctor's soundbites were great! Used a wonderful carseat analogy!

The quote says, "Carol is among what Ezzo calls ten million happy parents."

Ten million Happy Parents. Knowing some of the other stuff about Gary Ezzo, I'd guess that he made up that figure off the top of his head. It's really hard for me to believe anyone still listens to him, his official credibility isn't very high.

I used to do the same thing until I learned that hiding the books actually causes bookstores to buy more of them! When people go in and ask for them because they can't find them, more of the books are sold and percieved as being in demand.

It's still very hard to resist the urge to stash all the punitive parenting books in the back of the travel section, but here's something very cool and effective we can do - print these bookmarks and bring them with you to tuck into the books instead! I do this in the library books, too.

There are quite a few other good ones on that page, too!
