Free Resources?

Hi! Do you have a favorite site for freebies? Free work pages, etc? :)

Re: Free Resources?

Lots of educational books for children free online:
http://www.mainlesson.com/main/displ...rticle=feature

Every time I go to the site, they've added books.
Some titles:
The Iliad for Boys and Girls
Stories from Ancient Rome by Alfred Church
Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans by Edward Eggleston
Viking Tales by Jennie Hall
Heroes Every Child Should Know by Hamilton Wright Mabie

Ooops, I wasn't done yet and I clicked "post!"

The Story of France by Mary Macgregor
Stories of Beowulf Told to the Children by Henrietta Elizabeth Marshall
American History Stories by Mara L. Pratt
Stories of the Pilgrims by Margaret B. Pumphrey

Many of these are living books. You can see a complete listing at http://www.mainlesson.com/displaybooksbyauthor.php

I like the yahoo groups I'm a member of: "Clickschooling" and "0 Homeschool Reviews"
Clickschooling is nice because the moderator just sends you a site a day M-F and you can take it or leave it. She has sent some pretty cool stuff that I would not have thought to look for.
The review site is nice because in addition to being able to ask other parents for suggestions, you can search the archives and find what you are looking for. It's nice when you can help someone else out too when you know of a really helpful site.
In both cases the suggested sites are absolutely free.

No time to type much, but I love www.amblesideonline.org It is a free, online, Charlotte Mason curriculum. I know this isn't probably exactly what you meant, but wanted to plug it anyway because it is so fantastic. The advisory ladies who created it are all just regular hsing moms who give tons of their time and absolutely refuse any $$. :heart

I like Donna Young's site. She as all sorts of printable handwriting papers, as well as homeschool planners, records, attendance sheets, etc. We don't buy handwriting paper...I just print it front and back from the printer.

These would be more for older kids:

Free art http://cgfa.sunsite.dk/fineart.htm
Free poetry http://www.theotherpages.org/poems/index.html
Free links to classical music http://classicalwebcast.com/onepage.htm

I'll see what else I might have for younger kids.

www.janbrett.com has some really nice resources. All are based on Brett's characters from her children's books. There are flashcards, activities, etc on her page. A great resource for a unit on Brett's books!

If it is a fantastic site for education

have a look around fully following the links to all the learning places. They have things to do for kids from 2-102!

this is an example:http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/barnabybear/

The BBC also broadcasts dramatized radio audiobooks! We just listened to Lorna Doone. The only drawback is that I haven't figured out how to keep track of what's coming up.

Re: Free Resources?

Ambleside Online's domain has always been www.amblesideonline.com or www.amblesideonline.org. You need the "online" part. ;)

What a great thread!!!! :rockon

I wanted to add another one I just thought of:

http://www.starfall.com/

They have lots of free downloads for helping children read/write, and very cool, fun notebooks/workbooks that they sent us for free a few years ago...looks like they may charge a small fee for them now....less than two dollars! Definitely worth it!!! We have the Level One Reading and Writing Journal (block print) and the Cut-Up Books that include learning about great art masters like Van Gogh....absolutely wonderful stuff! :mrgreen

Looks like you can also download these things to print from your computer at no charge! :tu

oldfashionededucation.com

It is similar to ambleside online. It uses mostly online texts. The schedules for each grade and the site were put together by hillbilly housewife, if you know who she is.
