Thames and Kosmos science kits?

Are these any good? I know many boxed kits are not. Lego wants to do science in a hands on way and I have not been able to consistently pull things together for him. I noticed these are going to be on Amazon deals comjng up and so I am thinking about getting some of these. I don't want to waste my money though.

I got the multi-subject kit and it's been pretty good. There's been a few things we've skipped, but having the kid be able to follow the instructions and read the explanation has really helped us get it done.

I like them better than the Magic Schoolbus kits.
