I am not really sure where to put this. I just rec'd a message from a friend of a friend. She is a nonspanker and is taking alot of heat from her church on her position. She was guided to me (let's here it for word of mouth) as an avid nonspanker. She is asking for resources that address the fact that spanking is not biblically mandated, scriptural backing so to speak. To be honest, I have dumped most of my research because I made my decision not to spank and moved on.

So, I need resources to pass on to her so that she can deal with this situation. I would really appreciate any feedback. I am going to refer her as well to GCM's public parts.

Thank you so much in advance. Praise God that there are people out there seeking out the truth.

aolff.com is Crystals site. She is incredibly well versed, I have a lot of respect for her. :heart There is also a wonderful essay...I can not remember the site off hand, but I will try to find it. It was a letter to her pastor by a member called (I think!) Dulce de Leche. HTH

Well, here's something that I have come to understand. Thank God.

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love cast out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love", John 4:18
When adults hit children or threaten to, it is to cause them to fear getting hit correct?
Well, then , that is against what this verse says.
Some may say, the bible says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom", That's just the point. It is at the very beginning stating that there is a great lack of wisdom related to fear.

I have a lot of anti-spanking resources (http://whynottrainachild.com/category/links/spanking/) at whynottrainachild.com (http://whynottrainachild.com). The best resources are highlighted in the sidebar.

I wrote a couple of blog posts addressing this: The Rod is a Means of Grace (http://lutherama.blogspot.com/2007/09/rod-is-means-of-grace.html) and More on Tripp and Spanking (http://lutherama.blogspot.com/2007/10/more-on-tripp-and-spanking.html).

I love this verse too; NAS version of 1 John 4:18 subs "punishment" for "torment": There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
Any verse that cannot be reconciled with an argument for spanking may help as well: Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5), Beatitudes (Matthew 5), etc.
