How would you handle this?

[Two Little Birds]

DS was outside playing on the neighbors play box. There were a couple older (5-6ish) girls playing too. I was on the deck listening and watching. They kept telling him he couldn't, that was a girls toy, yada yada, so on and so forth. I didn't like that. He's only 2.75. So I went out and told him it was time for dinner (not totally true, but I did feed him immediately). He's just not old enough (IMO) to handle a situation like that.

Would you have done something different? If so, what?

Since he was at their house (did I get that right?) I probably would've just gone out and said something like what you did and added "thanks for being careful with his feelings girls, he's just little!".
