Diaper cover over undies instead of cloth training pants?

Have you used a diaper cover over undies as training pants? I have gDiaper covers and undies already and don't want to spend more money if I can avoid it.

Would it be better to put something in the cover, like a microfiber insert (figure that'd be okay since the cotton undies would be against the skin) for the absorbency? Or just the cover and undies so that she can feel better when wet?

I did that and never did training pants of any kind - cloth or disposable.

When we were going to be out awhile and I needed some absorbency I would put underwear on inside the diaper which helped DS too.

My dd wears the gerber training pants with a dappi cover. It works fine. (I just with the almost 5 yo would quit wetting her pants.)

We do that when we are out of our trainers, but I like the up and down of the underwear/trainers and you just don't get that with diaper covers.
