View Full Version : I need some help with a math curriculum for a friend
I have a friend whose kids are in public school. However, her 1st grade son has already finished all the 1st grade math & will finish the 2nd grade math before 1st grade is even over :clap :lol She is wanting something for him to do mathwise at home because he is asking for even MORE math :clap
I am going to a Christian HS expo on Fri & Sat and she asked me to keep my eyes open but I am so new to this & don't even know what's good & what isn't. Any thoughts?

I like Singapore Math and CLE Math. We used to use Saxon, but it was just too time consuming.

What curriculum is his school using?
She says they are using Math Expressions

If he wanted a full curriculum or just more math to supplement? Kumon has great supplemental workbooks. My early elem kiddos have done best with Developmental Mathematics. And, I like that the monetary committment is not so high if you don't want to continue doing it.
Saxon is very in-depth for that age and I find it BORING. Games are great to do math, computer games, card games and cooking games and you don't have to buy a math program for those.

There are a number of places online that provide worksheets and activities for that age as supplements. I'd link them but they were on my desktop that is being fixed.

Maybe something like Singapore or Miquon, which will look at math from a completely different angle (no pun intended, ha).
Then there is MEP math, free online. It is really unique and different, and I think more mentally challenging than the typical curriculum.
