(I usually do reflecting parent's feelings and then post tidbits of child development and offer a gentle "tool". . . Without trying to sound too whacked out or condemning. . .)

She was asking about "back-talk". I ended up telling that all 4 yo's sounded mouthy. And that if she focused on teaching her appropriate words to use, she wouldn't need punishments at all.

Luckily, I had several people back me up right away. ;)
