This essay comes from Anna Quindlen's book, Loud and Clear. As I read it, I found that she has expressed just what I feel about the parenting path and what I've learned. A friend of mine with grown up kids and grandkids sent it to me, but I was able to find it online on various blogs, so I'm linking to one of those:
It's a wonderful essay, I hope it will affirm and encourage you, too. A mother with grown kids learns that the experts didn't really know anything. You learn that each child is different and needs something different from you. One of my favorite lines from it is this:
Raising children is presented at first as a true-false test, then becomes multiple choice, until finally, far along, you realize
that it is an endless essay.
