Just :popcorn I have time yet before I need to get readers but since the other thread is making me :scratch about Abeka readers I was wondering what readers everyone uses.

We have the Bob books for dsK, he is just learning to begin to read. LOL.
We also buy them here and there- library sales are GREAT, Wal-Mart has some that are not terribly expensive, garage sales, thrift stores, etc. I just buy lots of books, period. LOL. (we are um, kind of addicted to buying and hoarding books, chuckle chuckle). :grin

That's simple: whatever I can find that the girls are interested in. :mrgreen Barnes & Noble has Dora books,
lots of easy readers..the library, yard sale bargains (yes you can find good yard sales in NJ! :wow ), Rainbow Resource...My house is being taken over by books!!!! :eek

We used Henry and Mudge, Little Bear, Frog and Toad, Mouse Tales, books like that.

Next time around, I might try some of these online readers:

http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=treadwell&book=primer&story=_contents
http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=baldwin&book=fables&story=_contents

And in first grade my son read his history book, Fifty Famous Stories Retold (http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=baldwin&book=fifty&story=_contents).

Ah. I recognized the logo as soon as I saw it. I think I've seen them at the bookstore.

I found sets one and two of these at my local library! Logan loves them! I am looking to purchase them for home, with level three and four being first so he can continue!

The easier Dr Suess books! Those were our favorites. The first ones my oldest read himself were Rocket Readers, very simple Bible stories. There's also a Rocket Reader Bible that's written in reading levels 1-2 (not grades). By the time my second reading kiddo came along we had a pretty good sized collection of easy reading books for her to jump into, along with some very old (copyright in the '60s) reading primers.

I do LLATL (http://www.commonsensepress.com/covers.htm). And have been checking things on my son's reading level out of the library.

We love the "classics" such as Dr.Seuss, as well as anything that peaks their interest. Currently Joe is into comic books and game {playstation} magazines; Ben is into not much right now; Both boys are into their Boy Scout manuals. We've found that by giving them things they want to read, they tend to do much better than if it's something "dry".

Well, we are using Phonics Pathways to teach reading. Then for additional reading, we are using Bob Books. Then of course, once he is capable, we have a huge bookshelf full of children's books that he can choose from to read.
