The newspaper was offering a free Olympics curriculum to teachers, so I sent for it as a HSer, and I got it today! They include 10 days of newspapers during the Olympics, but they require a minimum of 10, so they couldn't send me the papers. That's actually preferrable, since we already get it, and I don't need extra stuff lying around!
It includes a booklet called "The Science of the Olympics": Biomechanics, nutrition, fitness, energy, circadian rhythms, motion analysis, etc., a medals records chart, an activity booklet, how the Olympics are organized, etc.
They have to look up newspaper articles each day that relate to various topics.
I think this weekend we'll do some reading about ancient Greece as a lead-in and then study Italy along with the Olympics unit. At any rate, we'll be kind of scrapping our usual stuff! I need to get busy planning!
