Why not? :)
As long as you are careful I don't see why you couldn't sling an older child.
I'm not familiar with the type of sling you have, but I used my Maya-type sling with my ds when he was about that weight. A little hard on the back sometimes, but it worked!

I just wanted to know if the sling could carry the weight?

I'm not sure, but if it's a strong fabric with reinforced seams I bet you're ok. :)

I'm not sure about your sling, but my Maya Wrap is supposed to hold up to something like 100 lbs. Although they advise carrying above 35 lbs due to strain on your back. Maybe you could call the company and ask what it has been tested up to. I still carry dd (29 lbs) occasionally when she is needy, but I can't carry her for very long before my shoulder starts hurting. I'm going to get an Ergo though and I'm very excited! Dh has even agreed to carry her in it on vacation and he won't wear any kind of sling. :)

I carry Jaden (who was 32 pounds at last weigh-in 2 months ago) in a ring sling that I made - just regular broadcloth with doublestitched seams. He hasn't ripped it out yet :giggle

Those seams deffinently look strong enough. I am sure you are fine.

Just for kicks I wore my 75 lb and 5' tall 10 yo for a few minutes today... :grin He's such a goofball! Little Noodle got pretty upset to see Cheese in "his" spot so it didn't last long.

I slung my 3yo at 50lbs :grin most slings recommend only to 35lbs, but I don't now of any that have a lesser recommendation.

Yeah, I've generally heard 35 lbs. But I know some designs, like the Mei Tei, can go higher.

I'd think that it would depend on what position you were using. I'd go as big as I could manage to hold 'em with a front/hip carry where I have/can get my hands on them easily. I'd be more leary on the back.
