Mary,

I've enjoyed reading your reviews of this book. I have skimmed through myself, but have never taken the time to read it myself.

I think the most interesting thing is that she reached a point where the spankings didn't work and then had to find something different. If spanking is so effective, why do you have to do it for 7+ years and then still find another whole new set of tools to use once the spanking becomes completely ineffective!?

Unfortunately, I think that most, if not all, of Lisa's suggestions focus on external motivators for behavior. It is unfortunate that so many Christian parents are so focused on behavior modification (because that's what it really boils down to, whether you're talking about spanking or hot saucing) when we really need to be focused on reaching our children's hearts and helping them to find internal motivation for doing the right thing.
