How wide should it be?

I want to make a wrap. (it's easy) How wide should it be. I figure it should be about 5 yards long to do the holds I want to do. I'm just stumped as to how wide. I have one now that is only 20 inches wide and it only covers ds bum and halfway up his back. I don't think it's safe, I still have to use one hand to steady him. I don't even dare to put him on my back. I think 30 inches would be okay, but I would like more. If I do more will it be to hard to tie?

At least 30...I like them nice and wide so I can pull it over dd's head for support while she sleeps
