View Full Version : Is anyone teaching their children Spencerian penmanship?

I am so intrigued. My grandmother learned Spencerian script (I'm old!) and I always thought her handwriting was sooooo boootiful. I'm curious how children have responded to it.

I don't know any kids who have learned it, but it occurs to me that you could teach it as part of a larger focus on calligraphy, illumination and similar. I taught myself calligraphy as a kid, and would have liked to learn Spencer hand as well. My technique is such that that isn't likely, however. :rolleyes

There are neat intersections possible with art, history, and literature, too.

Grandma had the most beautiful penmanship. Hers was Palmer method, though. I just found out that Christian Liberty Press is Palmer. I'm so excited. :giggle

My son wants to learn Spencerian. If you find any examples online for him to copy, I'd love to know about them. He's old enough not to need a curriculum, he just needs to see it.

ooh interesting...I have horrible hand writing...would be fun to re learn maybe...lol right now our focus in our house is getting them to just print correctly..hehe
