Really people ??
There is a fb meme that is driving me batty.
A little girl is holding a sign that says "I lied to my Dad" in a public parking lot with him looking on. The general consensus is that the Dad is doing a good thing by making his young daughter hold that sign. The name of the blog where that sign was found is "Parenting Failures". I had to point that out to people. "The name of the blog is PARENTING FAILURES for a reason." I stopped myself from typing , " This is abhorrent and detestable." What part of a blog/picture named "parenting failures" makes you want to post that on your fb and say "YEAH BABY". People come to me for parenting advice on teens and I have to bite my tongue when I know they've spent the last thirteen years humiliating the kid and breaking down the relationship. GAH!! |

Re: Really people ??
We should be FB friends..
This morning i started a debate about this with some of my local friends on FB. My friend T posted it on our friends wall. I posted speaking out against it, which didn't go over well with my friend T. |

Re: Really people ??
I saw that. It's so sad. And it seems like parents are trying to out do one another with who can publicly humiliate their child more and get all kinds of high fives and kudos from other parents.

I haven't seen that one..............yet.
I have seen the one that says something like, "I fear a world ran by children who were not spanked, got trophies just for participating....."

I saw this today and hid it from my feed.
---------- Post added at 02:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:07 PM ---------- It does seem like that Let's go humiliate our kids on Facebook and then everyone will tell me how great of a parent I am

Re: Really people ??
I've seen one on pinterest that's a note on the front door that says "since you missed curfew, you can sleep on the porch, I've left a pillow for you this time". It's usually captioned "awesome parenting". Really? Just about every kid I know (including goody-2-shoes me) would just go back out or crash with friends or boyfriend. Stupid parenting!

Re: Really people ??
I already live in a world where most people spank. I'm unimpressed.

Re: Really people ??
I'm afraid of a world filled with kids who grow up thinking that the only choices are either to spank or to allow their children to do what ever they want.
Most people think those two are the only options. At one point I did too. Jesus has shown me a better way!

Re: Really people ??
I don't do FB, but that would be really great to have an image of Nazi soldiers and a caption, "A world run by children who were spanked."
As far as the original, I would ask, does the father have to use a sign to point out any of his sins? That would be a good place to put the quote from Christ, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." What a shame.

Re: Really people ??
I haven't seen this one yet. How utterly sad.
I did see one the other day that is a little boy standing with his arms crossed and it says, "So, you just hit me because I hit my sister to teach me that it's not okay to hit people? Superb logic." That one I reposted.

Re: Really people ??
I saw the "I lied to my dad" last week and got into a little discussion about it on a Christian group Im on. I was the only one that thought it was too harsh, unnecessary, shameful, etc. One guy actually said shaming is important when disciplining children. He kept saying, "Well I bet she wont lie again!" and Im like.. Umm yeah. She wont lie, but it isnt because she respects her dad or loves him, it will be out of fear. And who is going to make her hold up the sign when she's out of the house and can do whatever she wants? This kind of discipline will never reach a child's heart. Its so funny these same people like to make SACH and Ted Tripp out to be Gospel, but have no idea what "shepherding a heart" even looks like. It really puzzles me.
