Default Cinnamon roll recipe

Who has a good but relatively easy cinnamon roll recipe they would care to share with me? I would like to make them for Christmas morning.

The one requirement- no red dye. I looked (to cheat) at the premade ones at the store and they all have red dye. No thanks.

And go!

Default Re: Cinnamon roll recipe

I'm thinking of trying this one b/c I can do them the day before

I made these for Thanksgiving and they were delish

90-minute Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup margarine, softened
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 (.25 ounce) package instant yeast
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
1 egg
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine, softened

Directions
Heat the milk in a small saucepan to almost boiling, and remove from heat. stir in butter until it melts. Set aside and let cool. You want the mixture to be lukewarm.
In a large mixing bowl, add 2 1/4 cup flour, yeast, sugar and salt; mix well. Add water, egg and the now lukewarm milk mixture; beat well. Add in the rest of the flour a little at a time, stirring well each time. When the dough is just pulled together, place on a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 5 minutes.
Cover the dough with a damp towel and let sit for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a another bowl, blend brown sugar, cinnamon, softened butter.
Roll out the rested dough into a 12x9 inch rectangle. Slather dough with butter/sugar mixture. You can add raisins at this point (I don't because we don't like them). Roll the dough into a log and either pinch the seam to seal or coat edge lightly with water to seal.
Cut roll into 12 equal size pieces and place cut side up in lightly greased baking pan (I used a 9x12 glass baking dish). Cover and let rolls rise until they are doubled in size, approximately 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until browned. Cool slightly, so you can cut them and serve warm with icing.

I made my own icing with confectioners sugar, vanilla and milk.

Default Re: Cinnamon roll recipe

I made this recipe this morning, my first attempt at cinnamon buns. They're waiting on the counter for dh to come home, so in about 15 minutes we'll have a verdict, but based on what I've seen so far it's fantastic.

I made the dough in the bread machine, then mixed the butter/sugar/cinnamon and spread it on top, and then left it in the fridge for another 2 hours or so. Baked for 15 minutes. Can't wait!

---------- Post added at 11:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 AM ----------

OK - verdict is in. It was absolutely awesome, I can't distinguish it from the Cinnabon franchise. But it needs to bake for more than 15 minutes - I'll try 20-22 minutes next time, the insides were still a little on the doughy side.

Mine turned out amazing, despite my yeast failure!

I just ate THREE of them. Yikes. I used whole wheat flour, so they are healthy!

I made my own icing with confectioners sugar, vanilla and milk.
The overnight role were DELICIOUS! Thank you!

I might try one of these this weekend. My DS loves cinnamon rolls and the ones I made last weekend didn't turn out so good. (I think my milk mix was too hot and maybe I didn't knead dough enough ) My DH has a bread maker so maybe I can figure out how to do the dough part in there.
