It's frustrating because they only check his ferritin a few times a year. (He gets labs done every 2 weeks.) It takes a LONG time for it to come down, I think that's why. However, taking IP-6 Gold appears to be just as effective, perhaps a bit more, than the nasty med that was hard on his kidneys. Highly recommend anyone with high ferritin try it. Apparently, high ferritin is not uncommon in men over 50, even without any blood/bone marrow disease. After menopause, women can be affected by high ferritin, too. Anyone with unexplained hair loss could consider having their ferritin levels checked, also.

Glad it is helping! Slow progress is frustrating!
Have you done anything with low iron diet? Or if he is going to have something with iron, then make sure he has something with calcium to decrease ieon absorption. I know the blood transfusions are the main issue, but that may help.
