1. wish people well
2 begin each day by being grateful for at least 3 things
3. affirm to yourself 5x's a day "what I offer to others, I give to myself
4. be conscious of how often you judge or criticize others (including yourself)

Assigning positive intent
*when a child makes a mistake or misbehaves, attribute positive intent.
(see formula p 266 for help)
*you know you love your child, but does she know? (this has great ideas on how to show love)
*when you slip up, cut off punitive self talk and assign positive motive to yourself
*attribute positive intent to EVERYONE.

I just got back from a trip to the library and I used some of my skills. I consciously told myself "What you focus on, you get more of" and asked myself what I wanted them to do. Then, when they were having trouble listening to my words, I used a "When you ______, I feel _________."

Progress......slow and steady.

I just remembered something from last week -- a time that I showed positive intent.

Upon exiting the freeway, I had to brake fast because the person in front of me did. The person behind me beeped and I looked in the mirror and said "are they beeping at me? hmmm" then I got off the freeway and they sped past me and cursed me out to which I said "hey, she just cursed me out. She must be in a huge hurry to get so angry with me" My dd was like "dad, mom got cursed out on the way to walgreens today" to which I said "she must have been really upset but I have no clue why" and moved on

That used to have sent me into a tailspin but I just breezed through it like it was no big deal

I love when I see progress.

for those great stories! It's great to hear how you're seeing improvement.

This is definitely a hit or miss thing for me. Sometimes I can assign positive intent easily, and others I can't for the life of me find a way to do so.

I need to sit down this week and make index cards of the key stuff I want to remember and review them every morning.

Definitely I see improvement and regression in my behavior -- sometimes all in the same day I was NOT as quick to assign positive intent when my daughter shoved the door THROUGH THE WALL - yes, there is a hole in our drywall from her meltdown

BUT when I saw her reaction (and how shocked she was at what happened), I was quick to stop freaking out and say "you didn't realize that by swinging the door so hard you would make a hole. You were very angry and freaked out. Now you are so upset you don't know what to do. What can I do to help you calm down?"

Gaining control over yourself is NO easy task -- just one day at a time

Week 6? - I can't find my book at the moment My house is a wreck from being ill and other stuff
