LGP week 5 day 5
When you slip up, conscioulsy cut off the punitive self talk and attribute positive intent to yourself. "You were frightened for Sarahs safetly, so you yelled at her when she ran ahead of you to cross the street"
Attribute positive intent to the clerks, politicians, food servers and others. Do this out loud to model the power of love to your children. Do it especially when these people make mistakes. This demonstrated your cooperative spirit. |

I love all this assigning positive intent practice! I'm a problem solver, so I tend to identify problems first thing. Then a lot of times I forget the "assigning positive intent" part.

Re: LGP week 5 day 5
I think I've already talked plenty about how assuming positive intent has impacted my parenting & my relationships with others. I always love Becky Bailey's emphasis on how you have to change things within yourself in order to teach those things to your children. I love the way she asks us to assume our own positive intent when we screw up. Sometimes I do something I feel bad about later because I just wasn't thinking at the time. Later I think, "I was feeling worried or tired or whatever and so I did ____ . Next time I'll do ____." It really does help to think through what I will do the next time.

It's also helpful out in public to help people not be punitive with their children. I helped reunite a little boy and his grandparents who had gotten separated at WalMart and the grandparents looked angry when we found them . . . so I said, "I have a very scared little boy who was looking for you. You must have been scared too. Being separated from our people is so scary. I'm so glad you are all safe and back together." The grandmother almost cried and just hugged the little boy who was crying too and they talked about how happy they were to be back together
