Re: Would you want to know ?
I agree about the newly converted vegan who doesn't throw out the old leather shoes until they wear out...I was just giving a little example
My soapbox was about the people who only think it's about food, and it just isn't. I also come from a place where, when I first went vegan over a decade ago, people didn't even know what vegan meant. When I explained they When dh went vegan at the age of 15 (he's 34 now) vegetarians threw cheese at him and told him he was a jerk. It's much more common now as far as diet, but the lifestyle is still fringe. And I know lots of vegetarians who eat occasional chicken sandwiches and hamburgers. (???)

Do people just *say* these things? "Oh, I think I'll be a vegan today! What, not eat cheese?! But cheese is a vegetable!".

Re: Would you want to know ?
This thread is so funny. We're so blessed to be in the GCM community where the majority of moms are fairly informed about nutrition and... well... everything.

Re: Would you want to know ?
Maybe she was a meat-eating vegan? My sister (the astro-physicist, no less) said that she is vegetarian, and she will not eat anything that has a face. Then she ordered the fish. And the grated cheese on her salad was a nice sharp cheddar. I make no bones about it (), I am a meat-eating vegetarian.

Janet...I'm glad I swallowed my water before reading your post. I would've spit it all over the computer. That was hysterical !
My dd12 doesn't like to eat meat. She'll eat cheese , milk and other products...but not meat itself. When I pointed out her beloved Wendy's chicken nuggets were indeed chicken...she said "let's face it mom , it's fast food. There probably isn't any chicken in it." |

Re: Would you want to know ?
We were 'eating' vegan for a time, and when food issues came up I did always mention that a wasn't an 'ethical' vegan per-say, but rather we were choosing to not eat any animal products.

Re: Would you want to know ?
Yea I tend to just say were eatting meatless tonight rather than vegertarian or Vegan because I deffiently don't consider my self eaither yet I do cook a lot of non meat and sometimes even non meat dairy ect dishes that would be well suited for any true vegan or vegeterian but I still have personal convections against saying today I'm "vegan"

Re: Would you want to know ?
Okay, this thread made me laugh out loud several times. Yeah, I'd think the cheese would be a sign that it wasn't a vegan soup.
It reminds me of the time my husband and I went to Panera and ordered veggie sandwiches. My husband's veggie sandwich had not only hair in it but a huge chunk of chicken too. He was not pleased.
