I'm doing pretty good on most of the list, but those artificial sweeteners are hard for me to break! I am oding better, but I have splenda in my coffee every morning. I have stevia, but it tastes different. I need to just stop because I know how bad it is!

LOL..I just realized that I should probably cut out the coffee too! I have just one cup, almost every morning. My DH got me hooked. I need to just stick to tea!

wow, we cleaned out most of the milk products - not good for any of my children, and got rid of lots of the sugars, but not all - I am cooking and baking with honey and maple syrup now though. My kids and I are having withdrawal from all of it - my oldest dd who will be 13 in a week just won't quit the milk products - she eats them away from home constantly, and youngest dd who is 3 keeps asking for chocolate milk and pigged out on cheese at her preschool Christmas party yesterday and ds 6 wants sugar all the time - he asks for the "regular" syrup rather than the pure maple syrup - - I want chocolate all the time. I really don't know if we will succeed or not. But, we will keep trying.

This is terrific advice. One thing I would add is choose animal products (if you eat animal products) that are fed in a way that is natural for them.

ex. grass fed beef and eggs from vegetarian-fed hens

Not to be slicing hairs, but um...chickens aren't vegetarians.

But I agree that it'd be better to avoid mainstream chickens who are fed....well....chicken.

I agree..you want free range chickens...and chickens aren't vegetarians..they eat bugs and worms and other stuff like that.

I use regular ol' sugar for things like baking cookies.
For sweetening my coffee, I use stevia(Stevita brand).
For my tea, I use honey.

And I also use molasses or honey when making bread. But I'm not opposed to using sugar in that because the yeast eats a lot/most of that up.

I personally avoid all the artificial sweeteners like the plague, altho dh likes to use Nutra-sweet or Splenda in his coffee.

I buy Rapadura which is sugar that hasn't been processed so it still has the minerals in it and some nutritional value. I use Steva in a few things....

We use Sucanat which is basically sugar in it's natural state before it has been stripped of the minerals, etc. It is brown colored and tastes a little like molasses, but looks like slightly larger bits of sugar.
As far as I know, I think it's comparable to "Rapadura", which Cobluegirl mentioned.

Great advice mama, we do a pretty good job of following most, if not all of that. Somehow I seem to be gaining weight amid all of that (and I usually can't gain weight to save my life). Do you have any advice for eating out? I think that may be what is tripping me up. I really hate cooking so it is so easy for us to just say "let's eat out". Suggestions?

Oh, and I would second the stevia suggestion. Love that stuff!
