Fever and Headache
DS1 age 7 has had a moderate fever and a terrible headache in his forehead. Medications aren't doing much for the headache and nothing for the fever. I'm not too worried about the fever, hopefully it's doing it's job but I hate to see him in such pain. SO does anyone have any ideas on how to help him. They have to be things that one can acquire in a third world country so no need suggest super fancy medicines or EOs (well we have tto, lavender, citronella and patchouli on hand but I don't think they can help this situation much). We can't get them except by mail order.
And for those who are rightfully worried he doesn't have the right symptoms for all the big bad diseases (malaria, dengue, typhoid, etc) that we have over here. Still prayers would be appreciated.

Re: Fever and Headache
How long for the headache? Both of my dds get migraine type headaches when they have strep throat. No sore throat though.

Re: Fever and Headache
I'm a bit worried about stating the obvious, but for such severe pain I double up the painkillers (paracetamol and ibuprofen together). Pain protocol seems to suggest that you need to get a handle on severe pain before 'normal' doses of painkillers make a difference.
Maybe look up what "loading doses" are suggested for a child his age/weight? |

Re: Fever and Headache
I do the same as HouseCat. My daughter always gets a headache when she has a fever. I do Ibuprofen and Paracetamol one two hours after the other until things are under control. I was previously advised by a nurse to have the dose of one of them and consider it more like a top up dose.

Re: Fever and Headache
In good my child fashion he was fine (well, feverish without his headache) when he woke up next morning and I didn't make it online again. Honestly, I just have to post on gcm and they are magically cured...either that or someone on here is an amazing prayer warrior!
And I tried giving paracetemol and an hour or so later giving ibuprofen and nothing happened. I didn't think to try it more than once.

Re: Fever and Headache
In children, migraines can include a fever. Just something to keep in mind as migraines often don't respond to typical OTC pain medication. Glad he's better, though!

Re: Fever and Headache
I skip the Ibuprofen and Tylenol altogether and usually use heat or ice for pain.Using vinegar water cloths can help rduce fever a lot and cloths wrung out in warm epsom salt water helps with the pain.Glad he is all mended now!
