Default Manly scarf

My husband has never owned a scarf. I have some Malabrigo Rasta here that I'd like to knit into something he might wear. It will be handpaint, so I do need something that works with busy color.

It can't be a GQ kind of manly, either. What kind of a stitch pattern do you think I should use?

oh! And I have 85 or so yards, but he wouldn't wear a long scarf anyway. More like a neck warmer.

Garter rib is my suggestion. K2 P2 one row, then K the next row. Repeat until you're sick of it.

This is similar to what I was going to suggest. Mine is a P1, K1, P last stitch, then Knit the next row...repeat.

Another nice pattern is this (same, but bigger ribs):

Row 1: P2, K6...repeat until last 2 stitches...P2 (last 2 stitches)
Row 2: K2, P6...repeat until last 2 stitches...K2

Repeat ad nauseum.

Mistake Rib is nice and thick and squishy. I did a scarf with it that we all fight over.

But then my scarf would only be 10 inches. Maybe it should read, "Repeat until you are so ready to stab someone with your needles that you don't mind getting blood on your work".

Can you tell I hate knitting scarves?

Seriously though, the Yarn Harlot's One row scarf is nice too.

For my dh I combined up some plain black yarn and some multicoloured yarn and just did garter stitch on some nice fat needles.

Marielle-
Since as I mentioned, I hate making scarves, I used this pattern to make a neckwarmer for myself. You can see it here.
