I once posted a list of 101 reasons to avoid sugar. It was several years ago....so I'll see if I can scrounge up that list again for you.

The first 5 days were B.R.U.T.A.L!!! Then I noticed some good changes... more energy, less stomach issues... Now I'm in the habit of going without, and I'm getting bored with it to be honest.

More reasons to cut the sugar: http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-..._Eating_Habits

Candy in childhood makes for violent adults. Scary.

I had only seen Stevia mentioned in passing by one other poster and wondered if any of you use stevia as a replacement for sugar? It's been helpful for me in controlling my hypoglycemic tendencies (although if I could get completely off the Dr. Pepper's I'd be even better). *rolls eyes* Still - I hadn't seen it mentioned. When I bake now it's almost always with applesauce and stevia vs sugar.

Another thing I wanted to mention was to watch your healthy levels of fat. Something I tell my pregnant clients in childbirth classes is to try to moderate your cravings. If you are craving a chocolate bar or cupcake, try eating something that is high in healthy oils that will nourish the body but won't cause unhealthy spikes in blood sugar like avocados, black olives, fish or coconut oil, etc. So many times I found that when I THOUGHT I was craving sugar, I could satisfy that with an avocado sandwich or hard-boiled egg instead.

I need the reminders... I had a fair bit of sugar last week. Been feeling discouraged about finances and we can't afford the supplements right now to finish our treatment.

I don't care much for Stevia. Really, the only way I like it is if it's in some lemon water. I don't like it for cooking at all. All the recipes I've tried turned out trash worthy and no one would eat it....including me....the die hard anti sugar person trying to love Stevia.

Agreed... It may be "sweet" but it tastes just nasty to me.

i was all set to buy "Sugar Blues" and get off sugar until i read the reviews on amazon. i read quotes from the book, etc., and was convinced not to buy the book. it sounds like a bunch of bad science that can be proven wrong. i'm guessing that the history is right, but i can learn that elsewhere. from everything i've read, i'd be careful accepting any scientific claims this books makes. and i'd definitely read the reviews on amazon.

it's just my skeptical nature, but i'd like to see links for a lot of the stuff that's been said about sugar in this thread. i like to read studies and see the evidence for myself. eating (mostly) a low fat, vegan diet means that i don't eat a lot of sugar...way less than i used to eat, but i do still eat some. i do use stevia where i can though.
