Just want to say that I LOVE this idea! The thread idea and the social studies idea.

WOW! That looks like an amazing series!!!! It's only....$900+ for the complete set, bought new. I wonder if I can talk my library into it. I'm seriously going to look at ebay and amazon and half.com to see whether I could piece together some of those used. Maybe at least for the states that I'm low on other books??? Man, I wish they gave some sort of a quantity discount that would make them affordable for a lowly homeschooler...

Re: Picture books set in particular states?
I didn't even bother checking the price...I just got excited when I found there was one for each state!
FWIW, I just bout the E is for Evergreen for less than $5 on ebay. I bet you could find many of them used for a good price.

One Morning in Maine is another Robert McCloskey that has Maine in the title. It includes Sal from Blueberries for Sal.
We have a Texas State Alphabet book that has tons of Texas information.

I asked our library if they could get the series, they wouldn't because the use of the non local states would not be high enough to warrant the price. I wonder if a group of users went in together and rotated the books around. Btw, what I love about these books is the illustrations, and the multiple levels of reading. Simple stuff for younger kids and more depth for the adult or older child.

Re: Picture books set in particular states?
Must put forth the BEST Hawaiian books out there.
Footloose the Mongoose, there are two books by Elaine Masters. Footloose and the Dancing Flea and Footloose the Mongoose and his Wondeful Ohana. If you want something historical she wrote one about a singing Myna bird in Kimehameha's court called The Royal Waker Upper. There is also a science related book but called Lullaby Moon not my favorite by the kids LOVE it. I can loan you all of the Hawaiian books Gotta have them back when you are done though, they are autographed to her great-grandkekes and they need their Granny's books in their collection still |
