I bought a Ferber book. . .
. . . at a used book sale for 50 cents so I could throw it away. I've never done that before. Makes me feel kind-of cool. I know Ferber isn't as bad as Ezzo, but bad enough for me.

Ah, I like doing things like that. At our local book exchange, I took Babywise & What to Expect When You're Expecting just so I could throw them away. I exchanged some benign novels for the books. My dh found it amusing.

Just curious, what is the problem with What to Expect when you're expecting? I found that one useful, as I had no clue as to what would happen during pregnancy...but I followed my mommy instinct when dealing with our baby...

I have to find a used book store just so I can do that. It would make me feel so devious!

Re: I bought a Ferber book. . .
My obstetrician told me not to bother with 'What to Expect...' because it constructs pregnancy as a medical condition (like an illness), rather than a natural process. She also said it'd make me paranoid 24-7 that something dire was going to go wrong. When I was well into my second trimester and the preg hormones had settled down, I *did* buy it and found it had some useful information BUT, I kept my ob's advice in mind. Now we're in the early stages of our next bubs, I picked it off the shelf and what struck me (other than that the woman on the front cover has an looks like she's had a frontal lobotamy ) was there really is hardly any information on the changes in the feotus itself - just a teeny little diagram and a few dot points and that's it! So, now I'm looking about for one that focuses on the *miracle* of the life itself, iykwim, one that gets me *excited* about the whole process...any suggestions?
