Re: How long should it take for a kidney stone to pass?
Lots of different reasons. Depends on what they are made of. Lots of different conditions can cause them and some people's are never explained. My stones were made of calcium and after some blood work my doctors found I have a very high parathyroid hormone. The parathyroid has only one job, to control the amount of calcium in your blood. When it secrets to much hormone, it increases the amount of calcium in your blood. It even takes calcium from your bones and puts it in your blood. Then it goes to the kidneys where they try to filter it out and calcium collects. My PTH issue probably has to do with one of my parathyroid glands having a tumor on them (they are four glands) It is not confirmed yet with the special scan it requires, but if your blood calcium is off and your PTH is high the only cause is tumor. The only effective treatment is surgery to remove the tumor |

Re: How long should it take for a kidney stone to pass?
They have no idea what caused this stone, we're still waiting for it to pass. The urologist's office wanted me to wait until November 30th to be seen but I pushed hard and will be seen tomorrow morning. I hope they take me seriously, I'm so tired of 2+ weeks of an uber painful kidney stone. I feel like an awful mama because I'm in so much pain then the painkillers make me nauseated as well as sleepy so I'm this zombie woman lately.

Re: How long should it take for a kidney stone to pass?
Please make sure you are peeing well (drink lots of water) and at the first sign of a fever you go to the ER. A stone that hasn't passed can cause urine to back up into your kidney which can be life threatening.
