Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
Not a curriculum, just a book, but
What’s in the Bible? is a good reference. I know there is a DVD series by that name by the Veggie Tales people, but the book is unrelated to those. Last edited by teamommy; 04-15-2019 at 10:57 AM. |

Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
The website https://www.currclick.com/index.php is closing tomorrow, 4/30, at noon but I saw some whole Bible curricula there. Pretty affordable, too. Many things are 40% off.
Also, I love my Lectio Divinia Bible. It kind of does what your looking for. Lmk if you want to see images of what I'm talking about. Last edited by Soliloquy; 04-29-2019 at 04:51 PM. |

https://www.currclick.com/product/92...dy?src=hottest As far as Lectio Divinia, I have the CEB Lectio Divinia Bible but it comes in other translations and I believe you can buy it as a separate book to use along with your favorite Bible, too. The one I have has an introduction to each book with some historical background, info about the author (or disputed authors), and a summary of the book. Then, about once a chapter, there is a small section with an explanation of what you're about to read, then something to reflect on, pray about, and do. The idea of Lectio Divina is "read, reflect, pray, and act." It's not exactly what the OP was looking for but I thought I'd mention it. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lectio+di...nb_sb_ss_i_4_9 ---------- Post added at 08:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:57 PM ---------- I am buying this one, Authors of the Old and New Testament. It's only $1.99. It's just notebooking pages for each book so we'll have to research the info. But it will be a nice framework. I plan to work on it over the summer. https://www.currclick.com/product/15...ooking-Journal |

Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
I’m still thinking about this. I’m wondering if I’m wanting something even more basic than what I’m seeing suggested.

Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
This book came to mind. I have a copy of it, but unfortunately it is in our POD with all our downstairs books after our house was flooded back in Feb, so I cannot refresh my memory about exactly what it covered.
IIRC, it was more about how the Bible was written and history about the text. I remember there were a couple of things I did not like about it, but overall I thought it was well done and learned from it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/08...ustomerReviews

Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
Have you seen Tom Wright's 'for everyone' series? It's his own translation of the NT with his introductions and commentary included. I've just started reading Matthew For Everyone and I'm really liking it. You should be able to look inside on Amazon.
---------- Post added at 08:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:32 PM ---------- Perhaps What the Bible all About by Henrietta Mears? We have the Quick Reference Edition, which dh was given as a teen. It would make a good guide for young people. Gives a summary of each book, timeline, maps, etc. The original is still in print in various forms. You can read reviews on Amazon. The QR edition, which I think has actually been adapted for young people, is out of print but plenty of copies on Abe Books https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Sea...ence&kn=&isbn=

Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
Concordia's Complete Bible Handbook, which is aimed at students. For each book, it talks about:
*who wrote it and when/where it was written *how the book is classified (history, poetry, etc.) *how the book is organized (a high-level outline) *how the book points to Jesus, and *some key chapters of the book. It also discusses background info and pertinent concepts as they come up, and has an overview of the Bible as a whole and the OT and NT, a dictionary, and maps and charts. There's also a two volume Bible Companion that is aimed at adults that goes more in depth and engages with competing views. I really love it - it has a ton of good info. Probably a little much for going through with kids that age of yours, but a great reference for adults, to fill in blanks and answer questions.

Re: A Curriculum About the Bible: Not a Reading Plan
We have a lot of study Bibles. So I'm wondering if what I'm actually looking for is a short resource about how the Bible is organized, types of books (history, poetry, etc), and maybe a few more facts.
