E-Bay Bidding question
I've never really bid on anything before on e-Bay but am trying to get something that my SIL (whose name I pulled for Christmas) has on her wishlist.
Right now I've been outbid. It ends in 1 day 19 hours. Do I wait and then slam my max bid up at the last hour or so and hope it's good enough? Or do I add my bid now and wait to see if I'm outbid again? I'm such a noob.

Re: E-Bay Bidding question
Usually I bid what I'm willing to pay and if I get outbid, so be it. Lots of others recommend the last minute bidding war. I know I'm too likely to get caught up in the moment and overspend if I do it that way.

Re: E-Bay Bidding question
I wait. But I like the adrenaline rush of the last minute bids.

Re: E-Bay Bidding question
It's called "sniping", and it's a totally legit way to win something you REALLY want. Othewise, I do just put in my max bid, which will automatically keep applying should others outbid my current bid, and if I win than it was meant to be.
Interestingly enough, i just won an auction for some teeny tiny Mickey Mouse and friend's Polly Pocket figurines to use on my son's upcoming birthday cake |

Re: E-Bay Bidding question
I put everything I want on ebay in my watch list and make note of when the auction ends. I will come back to see what the price is, and if I am willing to pay or go higher, I will type in my value at the last second. Or if I know I'll forget or won't be around when it ends, I put in the highest I am willing to pay in the max bid and leave it.
I watch DH get into bidding on comics that go up and up and up. Seems so silly to me. If I bid and someone else bids after, then I know they are only going to keep bidding if I do. But if I let them think they have it, they stay still. Why drive the price up by continuing to put your number in?? That only makes sense to me if there is no time limit and it's a live auction.

Re: E-Bay Bidding question
Decided I'd watch it til today (it ended at 2pm). When I got up this morning, someone had put in a double the price bid and it was then out of my price zone. Boo. I'm not sure I like this auction thing lol.

Re: E-Bay Bidding question
I do not often purchase things on Ebay, but in fact, I've got some items I just added to my "watch list."
My experience has been what Missina says about the bidding going up and up if you start bidding too early. So I tend to be a last second bidder. It's a risky way to go, so you have to be prepared that you might lose that auction. But with most things, there's another auction for the same thing happening sometime soon!
