A success!
This morning started out wrong. My 5.5yo was having very big feelings over (seemingly) little things. He declared that he was having a very, very, very, very bad day. I tried a few different things to bring him out of this funk, but he wasn't budging .
He loves to draw right now, so I gave him a piece of paper and told him that I wanted him to draw a picture of how he was feeling. He drew a picture of himself with a lot of tears. Then I had him draw why he was sad. He drew a picture of the chain he wanted but didn't have. I could see that he was starting to feel a little better already. So I told him draw a picture of something that would make him feel better, he drew sunshine. After that he was feeling much better and went on to draw some more pictures for his "book". I have seen people recommending to have kids draw what they are feeling, but I never tried it with my kids. I am really impressed with how it helped my ds process his feelings and move past them. Both boys are now happily playing with playdoh
