Default Crafts for a 5 yr old

My 5 yr old is very interested in crafts. She doesn't have the ability to loom yet so I need ideas. She doesn't like things that are too kidish. She wants to be able to play with it, use it for her AG doll, or gift it to someone that will use her creation.
Help?

Embroidery is great for a 5yo. You could then sew something she embroidered into something for her doll. Embroidery is the first sewing I do for kids. I get a hoop and some white fabric. I draw a simple shape of their choice (everything from hearts and flowers to dump trucks and rockets). Then I turn the hoop around, hold it up to the light, and trace the shape on the back. That shows them where to put the needle in on the back side as well- anywhere along the line. I buy a big bag of assorted embroidery floss- no need for specific colors since they just pick out their colors.

One project I always do with my 5yos is a tooth pillow. They pick the fabric. It has a little pocket on the front for a tooth. They embroider something on the pocket before I put the pocket on the pillow. They can also embroider on the pillow as well. Then that's where they put their lost teeth to wait for the tooth fairy. I haven't done that with my 5yo dd yet, so thanks for the reminder.

A pillow for a doll is good, too. Christmas ornaments are super easy (I know it's June- maybe not yet) or you could do other holidays. I absolutely love wool felt and I like to have my kids sew with it. It doesn't fray and it is much nicer than craft felt. You can have her sew embellishments onto stuff (we have mainly done Christmas ornaments) or make toy food if she has a toy kitchen or likes to play with toy food. Toy cookies are fairly easy, with beads for sprinkles.

Basically any project you might make for her you could have her embroider on or sew a wool felt applique on. Wool felt doesn't love the dryer, though, so I don't recommend doing something that needs to be washed a lot, like clothing. She could sew wool felt shapes onto a super hero cape if she would enjoy that (you can cut one out of a t-shirt with no sewing at all if you want).

As far as things not looking childish, I think that has entirely to do with the materials people pick out for kids. If you wouldn't want to make something to hang in your home out of craft foam, then don't give your child craft foam to work with. Things that are much more beautiful are available and not that much more expensive. So just go by what you like- if you think a material actually looks nice, then the finished product isn't going to look too childish to her I bet.

When you're saying she doesn't have the ability to loom yet, do you mean weaving?

Embroidery
Crochet
Knitting
Weaving
Sewing
Tatting
Beading
Making Christmas (or other holiday!) ornaments--could be filling clear ornaments, could be all kinds of things...)

She can probably finger knit. There are lots of videos on YouTube. 4 fingers looks better, but one finger is way easier.
