Questions on Richard Fugate
Have any of you all had any dealings with people following Richard Fugate? I just read What the Bible Says About . . . Child Training Parenting With Confidence written by him and I was not impressed.
http://www.r fugate.org/ What do you say to people who feel spanking is the only Biblical way, that explanations and redirection or talking about feelings or emotions are the worlds way of doing things and are not Christian? What do you say to children that when asked why they should not do something simply say because you get spanked, who don't seem to know the reason why you don't play with knives (you get cut) or why you don't stand real close to the burner on a stove (you get burned) or why you don't hurt your sibling (because it makes them sad or hurts them) when the only answer is when you do these things you get a spanking? When they were given explanations they understood and obeyed. What do you do with a 5 yr old that when asked a question or asked what she did always answers with "I don't know" ? Is this normal, is it afraid to answer or is it just being stubborn or defiant? How do you encourage a child doing that to answer? How do you show Gods grace to children who seem to know more of the fear of God than the love of God? How do you explain to them the concept of God as the great Shepherd who guides, care for and loves his people or help them understand and see Jesus as caring for the children (Mark 10:13-14). Callasandra .... who is thankful that God is patient with us. editted to keep link within our posting guidelines, by TulipMama |

Re: Questions on Richard Fugate
I've had no dealing with Fugate followers - thankfully.
I have a nephew who stands about a foot taller than I do at 17 - he's a really good example of why spanking for every issue is foolish - one day your child might be the 'big one' and what will you do then?
