Yellowstone
There was a thread recently where someone mentioned having visited Yellowstone. I need info! My daughter might be doing an internship there this summer and ... mama worries. In particular, I am curious about the roads in the northern part of the park - main roads. Are they curvy mountain roads? Dd is a newish driver and her assignment would have her living inside the park, but traveling just outside every work day.

Re: Yellowstone
We were there last summer. I didn't go to the northeast part of the park but drove through the northwest section. I do remember curvy mountain roads. I don't think it's unsafe but I was nervous driving through. I think it was only a small section, though, right before you get to Mammoth Hot Springs.
I intentionally did not drive through the northeast section because it looked to me like it would be more curvy mountain roads.

I posted recently asking for tips to make a trip there, but we aren't going until May!
I have no idea about the roads. I am glad dh will be driving.

Re: Yellowstone
We drove into Yellowstone the summer before last via the Beartooth Highway - which was wild That road is not inside Yellowstone itself, but we did enter from the north of the park. The main roads in and around Yellowstone, at least as far as I can remember, weren't wildly curvy Where there were curves, the speed limit was sloooow and there were (of course) guardrails everywhere.

Re: Yellowstone
I spent a summer working a job in Grand Tetons and spent a lot of time in Yellowstone, too! The roads are fine; there are some good winds and curves but not what I'd call dangerous mountain roads, at all!
My two cents - the tourists and the animals are what she needs to look out for. I hit a porcupine one night! All was ok but man....those quills! As someone else mentioned, speeds are slow already and she can just work on her awareness of animals and people moving unpredictably.

Re: Yellowstone
She is just now driving much, so winds and turns are still a bit of a challenge. On the other hand, after four days of driving just to get there will up her game significantly!
I always worry more about the other drivers in places like this Her phone interview is tomorrow, so she should know a lot more soon.

Re: Yellowstone
I looked on google earth street view and it didn’t seem too bad. Not to give you another thing to worry about but find out if the roads are gravel. Driving on gravel is a lot like driving in snow and it’s quite different than driving on paved roads.
