So my toaster died....
I was cleaning my counter tops and accidentally knocked the toaster off. Not sure what happened but its dead. No biggie it predates our marriage and I bought it from a grocery store so it was never a huge investment...
However we do use it so I need to get a new one. So my question.. Should I just go from another simple toaster or like a toaster oven? Any recommendations? Price will be a factor under $40 tops. Space is also an issue.

Re: So my toaster died....
I grew up with a toaster oven but have only had toasters since I moved country 12 yrs ago. Toaster ovens are neat but a toaster will do. Actually we have the kind that will do 4 slices at once and I would never go back to 1 or 2 slices with so many in the family. We are on our 3rd one in that dozen years. They don't make them like they used to!
If price is a factor, you can get something for $10 easily, can't you? No need to spend more on that. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: So my toaster died....
Toasters are inexpensive, and not something I'd spend a lot on.
For my family, a 4 slicer is essential. We have a Hamilton Beach. It's this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hamilton-...B&gclsrc=aw.ds Mil bought it for us probably about 10 years ago. Used pretty much daily and never had a problem with it. Since space and price are a factor, if you can get away with it I'd go with a 2 slicer -- cheaper and take up half the space. However, only you know if that's functional for your family.

Re: So my toaster died....
I would just have a toaster oven. You can do more slices at a time and it does SO much more. We don't have a microwave but we have our toaster oven on the counter like one and use it daily.

Re: So my toaster died....
I LOVE my toaster oven! It does do more slices, which is important. You can also make open-faced sandwiches, quesadillas with a crispy outside, roasted vegetables, and my toaster oven fits a 9X9 pan so I can make lasagna, cookies, a cake, yeast bread, quick bread, etc. It's nice for the rare occasions that I need 2 different oven temperatures at once but most of the time I use it when I want to bake something without heating up the house as much (I can even quickly put it out on the back deck and not heat up the house at all). It also heats up more quickly than my regular oven. It doesn't take up that much more room than a toaster. It's also easier for kids to use than a big oven.

Re: So my toaster died....
We have a toaster oven, but the toast it makes us very difrent from the pop-up variety. I think I would just replace what you had with out upgrading.

Re: So my toaster died....
I have a both a toaster and a toaster oven. A toaster oven does not toast toast like a toaster. I use the toaster oven frequently, just not for toast. I like my toast toasted in a toaster.

If gluten cross-contamination is a concern, an oven is easier to clean.

My vote would be for a toaster oven. You can get a small one. |

Re: So my toaster died....
I'm leaning towards a toaster over. THe cleaning I think will be easier (cross contamination something we deal with) and it might give Cecilia more options to "cook".
I make toast for our family in the oven more often than using our old toaster anyways I'm assuming a toaster oven would result in similar results. ---------- Post added at 10:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:26 AM ---------- this is the one I'm leaning towards.. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Re: So my toaster died....
I absolutely LOVE my toaster oven and use it almost every day. I hate the microwave so I rarely use it but my toaster oven gets used constantly. I actually got it for free from a friend but I would have paid up to $75-$100 for one with as valuable as it is in my kitchen. Keeps me from using the oven all the time and I can make way more toast with it than a regular toaster. My toaster oven makes awesome toast and I'm kind of a toast snob, lol.

Re: So my toaster died....
I have a toaster oven and am mostly blah about it. However it is a smaller one (similar to the size you linked) and I am totally jelly over my friends. I can fit a 9" cast iron skillet in hers, handle and all! She bakes whole chickens in there! There are two racks. In mine I have very little vertical clearance (a little shorter than the one you linked). It fits only 4 pieces of toast, and the only pan that fits in it is the one that came with it, which is a terrible quality and not good for even baking like 3 cookies which is all that would fit. I want something I can actually bake in, mine is really only useful as a toaster for a family, but takes up way more room than a toaster.
If you can, spend the extra $20-40 and get a big one. It is worth it. Otherwise, my advice is get a cheap regular toaster and save for a big toaster oven. Small toaster ovens are not very useful to family sized needs. |

Re: So my toaster died....
We could afford the upgrade. I'd just have to see if we could do the size.

Re: So my toaster died....
I'm realizing that I may be little over-invested in the toaster vs. the vastly inferior toaster oven battle.
I'll see myself out.
