Unprepared for Parenting (Ezzos, Pearls, Etc.) *Public* Support and information for those affected by the Ezzos, the Pearls, and other punitive and adversarial methods of child-rearing.
A public forum.
Before posting here, please read this sticky and keep guideline 23 in mind:

23. No posts harshly dissecting parenting moments of others since we desire to humbly cultivate a heart attitude of grace and not judgment towards other mamas. We all struggle at times as parents and have much to learn, and GCM's focus is to provide tools and information for each of us to parent more effectively. Posts voicing some frustration regarding choices made by others can be okay, but it needs to be within the overall context of seeking understanding or ideas for better responses in the future.

In my Child Psych/Developmental Psych courses @ a fundie Christian college, I was introduced to the developmental info, but then it was dismissed under the statement,"'But these authors/researchers are not Christians and do not take into account sin nature." When a fellow student questioned what sin nature had to do w/cognitive development, she was pretty much shamed and her question was talked around rather than answered directly.

Science and the Bible do NOT contradict one another. Any Christian educator should know this.

Yes, but @ this particular school, psychology is "pseudo-science." There were actually board members who were very angry the school hired someone who got his doctorate in the field from an Ivy League school.

Straaaaaaaange! I can't emphasize enough that in everything, moderation and balance are key! Extremes are almost always inaccurate when it comes to worldviews.

Ezzos have a whole appendix in their parenting books about the development of modern psychology and how it's all . . . get this! . . . humanistic behaviorism.

Wait, isn't changing BEHAVIOR by hitting . . . behaviorism?

The Church has been rejecting science since Science discovered that the world was round, and there were extinct speceis. This is why non believers find Christianity Uncredible.

The organized church has almost always taken the extreme position.

right. My Dad says, 'don't give me any psychobabble' and then spouts some off as reasons to spank.

Christians need to learn to think for themselves.

I have a blog post which says:
Quote:
JeriWho has written a very interesting blog about Psychology and The Fundamentalist Christian at Blog On The Way. Her premise is that while rejecting Psychology for being “atheistic, Darwinistic, and utterly secular,” they tend to embrace behaviorism which is also atheistic and unbliblical. She makes some very good points here and gives much food for thought.
