Laying Down the Rails
Does anyone use this resource?
Is it good and you recommend it or would you say not to bother with it?

Re: Laying Down the Rails
Yes. That's the one I was thinking about. Do you use it?

Re: Laying Down the Rails
I haven't bought it, but I went to a seminar of SCM's where part of the day was spent on LDTR, and I thought it was outstanding. Based on that, I would recommend those materials. I've ordered other materials from her site and have been very pleased with all of them.

Re: Laying Down the Rails
I think I went to a workshop on it at one of our homeschooling conferences. I even bought the book, but I haven't put it into practice . Isn't the idea to really focus on teaching one new habit a month, and then by the end of the year, your kids will have 12 new habits? That's what I remember if I'm thinking of the same book. I love the idea! And one habit a month seems totally doable.

Re: Laying Down the Rails
We're trying to use it. Like they suggested, we picked "obedience" as our first habit.
Yeah. It's not a habit. It's not even close to a habit. So I can't really tell you yet that it works great. Or that it doesn't. I suspect other habits might be "easier" for our family. |

Re: Laying Down the Rails
Our 24 Family Ways by the Clarksons sounds like it would be a good fit too.

Re: Laying Down the Rails
I have it, was never consistent enough about implementing it (my downfall in most things). Also, I didn't get it until my older girls were 10 or 11, and by then they were . . . not on board . . . with the approach. I think if I'd had it, and been consistent about implementing it, when they were pre-schoolers, it could have been amazing! I love the theory of it.

Re: Laying Down the Rails
Thanks for the recommendation, we're going to look that one up asap. We've been looking for some thing to do as a family. I love the idea of the resourc ein the OP, but the price I saw listed seemed a bit intense. If you get it Chickadee, I'm very curious to hear what you think for your kids ages...I am still considering it.

Re: Laying Down the Rails
I think I'm going to go with Laying down the Rails for now and perhaps move on to 24 Family Ways later on.

Re: Laying Down the Rails
One of the reasons I love Our 24 Family Ways is the family who wrote it.....all six of them LOVE GOD. Love, love, love, love God. They aren't perfect. Life hasn't been easy. But they love God and each other.
We just started our 24 Family Ways. I wasn't sure if my youngest was old enough for it before. In hindsight, he probably was because of his personality. Please keep us updated on the rails one too.
