Unprepared for Parenting (Ezzos, Pearls, Etc.) *Public* Support and information for those affected by the Ezzos, the Pearls, and other punitive and adversarial methods of child-rearing.
A public forum.
Before posting here, please read this sticky and keep guideline 23 in mind:

23. No posts harshly dissecting parenting moments of others since we desire to humbly cultivate a heart attitude of grace and not judgment towards other mamas. We all struggle at times as parents and have much to learn, and GCM's focus is to provide tools and information for each of us to parent more effectively. Posts voicing some frustration regarding choices made by others can be okay, but it needs to be within the overall context of seeking understanding or ideas for better responses in the future.

Default Kinda funny re: Pearls

I wrote a blog entry re: The recent murder and the Pearls, etc. I referenced in that entry my concern b/c some of my family members were being sucked in to their madness. Well, my father read that entry, and then brought it up to my sister and bil! (the family members I was talking about LOL - my dad didn't know it was them though). He said they had an interesting discussion. Fortunately my sis and bil aren't terribly entrenched in the whole Pearl thing, BUT, they still think they are the best thing since sliced bread. Hopefully, we'll be able to show them what they are really like.

THEN, my dad brought up my blog to a customer of his (he's a hair stylist), and she pulls out this stack of Pearl business cards, that she hands out to mothers who look like they need help LOL. She also told him very happily about how she doesn't ever have to "discipline" her kids, she just holds the stick/rod (I can't remember the word she used for it) in her hand, and they do exactly as she asks. She even was telling him how she had a friend over to show her how well this wonderful method worked.

~sigh~It's like they're everywhere. Scary. I'm hoping that as awful as the murder of that little boy was, that maybe it will shed some light on the evil that is being spread by these people.

What a blessing that the lines of communication opened up between your dad adn BIL and SIL. Maybe having that woman give him those business cards further impacted him as to just how creepy these people are....

This is sooooo bizarre to me. I mean, sure, when we were using Ezzo and so pleased with it I told every preggers woman I met about it and invited them to our church. *gag* And yeah, I had MayaWrap business cards to share because I got sooooo many comments on my sling. But I cannot imagine having Pearl cards and handing out to mothers "in need of help." Eck.

OH MY GOODNESS! Now I am freaked out b/c I'm hoping to move back to your neck of the woods one day. :/ No one seems to have even heard of the Pearls up here. Business cards? Yikes!

The good thing, Elizabeth, is that their is a strong AP influence around here too. I honestly (until now haven't met many Pearl types. Ezzo? Yes. Pearl? No. But I have only started homeschooling this year too, so I'm hoping it's not a big part of the homeschooling community here.

Someone in another thread... Rebecca, maybe?.. used the word "evangelistic" to describe the Pearls, and it's an appropriate word. They encourage their readers to pass the books on to someone new once they have digested them.

The tone of their books is so condescending toward parents whose children don't "toe the line"..... so judgemental of all who do not agree with them. They believe they are right and everyone else is wrong and in need of correction. (At least she approached him with business cards instead of trying to teach him the same way she teaches her children :/ )

I had never heard of the Pearls before coming here. The whole Pearls atmosphere seems so cult-ish to me.

It might of been me... their whole sick twist is that you really aren't a Christian unless you spank you kids... hence the "evangelical" side of it. I never realized that my salvation was based on whether or not I spank my kids :/ . So why did Christ die for us, anyways??

It doesn't seem cultish to me... it is. Period.

the Pearls give out business cards for free to hand out to parents who "need help"
So glad I realized how wrong their teachings are

Just to add a thought - I have name cards that I use when I need to swap phone #'s etc., they have my name, address, phone, and e-mail on them with a cute picture of sweet children holding hands. I added under my name: "homeschooling, breastfeeding, gentle Mommy" as my "title". I have gotten some sweet comments about the cute cards and it is a nice conversation starter when they ask about my "title". I find it disgusting to pass out "Pearl cards". Mine don't have anybody's theory on them or anything, they just give me a chance to share a "gentle" word! Maybe if we were all card-carrying "AP/Gentle Moms" we could battle this Pearl card thing! Two can play at that game!
