Default The Ultimate Read-Aloud Guide!!!!!

This is the official gathering of resources for Read-Alouds! This thread is mainly aimed at books to read aloud to 5-9 year olds, though that age range will obviously vary.

I have compiled a list of read-aloud books recommended in previous threads and additional resources. I also left a couple relevant notes from the threads they were taken from.

Links are provided for books that have been previously recommended 4+ times. Books are in order of number of previous recommendations, so forgive me if the order seems like it lacks rhyme or reason.

That is awesome!!! Is this going to be a place where we can add to, or make notes in regards to the books listed above? (ie, several of the books listed are actually the first in a series)

Sure.

The books that I linked to that were series, I tried to link to the full series. In the non-linked books I just listed the first one and assumed that those that checked it out and liked it would notice that it was a series.

Can this be made into a sticky or put into the Educating our Children forum? This is a fantastic reference that I will want to refer back to! Thanks so much!

Yep. I meant to sticky it when I posted it.

It's also stickied in Young Thinkers and the Reader's Alcove.

---------- Post added at 08:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ----------

I also want to say that I really debated which education forum to put it in - the fact that it's here isn't a snub to non-homeschoolers (I'm not an exclusive homeschooler myself!).

---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 PM ----------

I chose HS because from what I've noticed, it comes up somewhat more frequently here.

oooh fun! We love books, so this will be a thread I check back on frequently. Two favorites here that I do not think made the original list are Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat and Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch. The latter is not a chapter book, but it is an all around favorite by kids and adults alike here in this house and it is perfect for valentine's day. Also, I frequently check Sonlight's books and also Veritas press for good age appropriate reads.
