Phonics Road to Reading (Latin Road)
So I bought this curriculum at our convention. It was very expensive, and it was an impulse purchase because Monkey is having reading troubles and they made this program sound amazing.
Well, I am digging into it and they teach me via a DVD and then I teach Kitten. I am 38 minutes into the first DVD, and I am going to claw my eyeballs out and scream at the top of my lungs. It is the slowest, most boring thing I have EVER seen! I just want to cry and cry and cry some more because I have wasted a TON of money on this. I really enjoy All About Spelling, and I want to buy the All About Reading curriculum (which I have not seen), which appears to teach the same things as the Phonics Road curriculum, except the All About series is so much easier to teach. You just follow along with the lessons in the book. But I now can not buy All About Reading. I am really stuck with this awful curriculum. I do not have a spare penny to spend on more curriculum. Anyway, I am just going to have a break down if I have to watch this woman teach me how to teach this curriculum. And there are lots and lots of DVDs. I have to watch a DVD before each lesson. And she doesn't even break it down into - "this is week 1" and "this is week 2" and so forth. Has anybody else used this? Do you have any tips on how not to go completely insane? Please help me!!! Thank you!

Re: Phonics Road to Reading (Latin Road)
I do think that PR has good resale value - bailing out and recouping enough to buy AAR is probaby an option . Otherwise, I haven't used PR myself, but it has a lot of fans on the Well-Trained Mind boards - it's a good program . Here's a post from an experienced PR user on how she uses the program: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/to...oad/?p=1494326 Here's her PR posts on her blog - scroll to the bottom to get to her first posts: http://www.lifeofthegilbertgang.blog...Phonics%20Road You can totally do this!

Re: Phonics Road to Reading (Latin Road)
How frustrating! I don't know anything about this curriculum but I do know what it's like to buy something that turns out not to be as good as you hope/expect. It sounds as if selling could be an option so I hope something like that works out for you

Re: Phonics Road to Reading (Latin Road)
VERY VERY slow is usually what struggling readers need. I too think you can do it. Teaching a struggling reader is not easy and requires a lot of patience and I feel I shed a lot of tears through the process.
AND I agree PR has very good reviews and has good resale if you are positive you cannot do it.

Re: Phonics Road to Reading (Latin Road)
Well, I'm going to give it a go for a few weeks and see if we can find our groove. It's good to know that it has a good resale value!
Thanks for your input ladies!
