Oh my!!! I would just die. We had Thanksgiving at my house last year, so this year, the height of my messiness, I won't have to do it.

I spent the whole morning Sat. working on what is supposed to be ds's room - and it looks worse than before. *sigh*

OK, so I am about to have a heart attack.
My house looks like a dirty bomb went off in it.
Last night, I spent my time while I was watching LOST in my bedroom putting away clothes and that made a vast improvement in there, but the rest of the house, including DD's room which generally stays our "nice room" is a mess.
I am all freaked out because my MOPS group is coming over tomorrow for a playdate and if anyone saw my house now, I would die!
My house is a dirty mess.
None of them have ever been over before.
First, there are the major issues.....
like a front room under construction (it has paint and a floor now, but no baseboards) the new flooring could use a good sweeping.
The downstairs powder room has a usable toilet but no sink- we are replacing our sink, and so there is a pedastal only. The drain is covered so that there is no icky smell, but the lavatory bowl is on the floor. So guests can go there to actually use the toilet but then have to go wash their hands in the kitchen. (as soon as I pick a paint color and pick a new faucet, DH will put the new sink in, but I haven't chosen yet!)
We also have a few walls downstairs with writing on them, etc, but we haven't done much with them because we will paint just as soon as I can pick a color.
Our dining room has been used as a "catch all" room for a long time as well, and the table is mostly covered in papers, there are some boxes in there, and the sideboard also has just random *things* on it.
Our carpet can be vacuumed but it still looks awful!!! Just awful!

And no, we didn't just move in, we have been here for 2 years as of this week!!

So, in addition to these "biggies" I have just regular mess and dirt to clean up.

So, anyway, I am having this playdate here tomorrow. None of these people have been over before. We are still in the "getting to know each other" phase. I am planning to keep everyone downstairs in the kitchen, eat in area, and family room, and if it is sunny enough and not freezing, out back.

What would you concentrate on? Like, what, when you go to someone's house, makes you go "Ick!" or do you really care if it is clean?

ETA: Should I be asking the Cleanies??

The toilet they're gonna use might be a good thing to clean.

(((((hugs)))) I admire you for having all those people over! Right now we have CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). :P But we won't as of tomorrow morning, hopefully, because Brian's sister and her DH and maybe their kids are coming over. We gotta lot to do tonight! Thankfully, they're kind of messies, too, so it's not as bad as if Brian's parents were coming over. Good luck! BTW, I think rooms under construction is a fine excuse to have things a bit messy with items that are related to the construction, KWIM?

I agree that construction is a good excuse to have some stuff messie. If any of these ladies have ever had their house "under construction" they will *totally* understand.

I think you should ask a cleanie. LOL I have no help for ya there.

So today I am digging us out. DH took DD to work with him so that I could work without interruption (sp?). It's been extremely quiet at my house...well, except for the blaring Kristy Starling CD Ha. Upon dragging all the clothes off our bedroom floor I realized that DH's suitcase from SEPTEMBER was never unpacked. I asked him to do it himself and he never did it. I found his nice suit pants (that he kept accusing me of washing b/c he couldn't find them--that would've been a disaster as they are dry clean only), the golf shirts he was asking me about this morning, a shirt he bought for DD while on his business trip, golf shoes, the list goes on and on. That added another foot to my pile of laundry. Why does it seem to never get done? I told myself that for every 30 minutes I work, I get a 10 to 15 minutes break. I just finished working for an hour and a half and stopped for some lunch. I can't believe it's almost 2 already. I haven't even touched the first floor yet. I want to get my house in some shape b/c DH is leaving for a golfing trip on Saturday and I don't want to be living in this stressful mess while I'm a "single parent". That and I figure if I get it all clean, I can have friends over with their kids to keep Hope and I company while he's gone. So, with that said, I'm going to finish my lunch and get back to work. *sigh*

LOL about the suitcase, HopesMommy! What a find! I am only laughing because we have so been there, done that! Sorry it makes extra work for you!
I understand about wanting to get stuff in better order before you are a "single mom" for the weekend, it does help things go along more smoothly.

Thanks for the understanding, Maggie! We can do this together!

I just spent the last hour or so following Flylady's instructions for the crisis cleaning that is on her site. I even did the step one, with the getting dressed to shoes and all.
We are in our first break, the children sort of helped, then after the first 45 minutes, we had a snack, and now I am here for a bit, and they are watching 15 minutes of TV.

I was feeling much better until I went to back upstairs!!!
Oh well, we did get quite a bit done in 45 minutes, and it went fast.
So, after my break, I am going to do 15 more, in the bathroom downstairs, then we have some errands to run.
Then I will come back and start again!!

When I"m really in a pinch and people are coming over and I don't have time to clean, I make sure their bathroom is clean, there are towels in there, and the kitchen is somewhat presentable, especially if there's food involved. I make sure they have a place to sit, and I do a quick vacuum of any areas they're going to be in.

Well, I got it all done.
DH and the children helped finish the tidying last night, and then DH gave the children their baths and put them to bed so I could clean.
I also put up the rest of my fall decorations. I figured that if it was decorated nicely, no one would notice the dirt as much, LOL.
I was not able to get all the pink off of the floor, but I was able to get the residual pink up, and the only pink that is left is the actual dye splotches, if that makes sense, and they are light, but the floor itself was clean.
My kitchen looked really nice! I wish I could keep it that way all the time, it is so peaceful, even with a million toys around!
Toys were all over the floor so fast, no one would have even had a minute to notice all the carpet splotches, LOL.
I am just like I got it all done! I had all my food prepared and laid out when people arrived, too, which never happens!
I had baked pumpkin muffins this morning and lit a pumpkin candle, so the house smelled nice, too.
I sort of looked like I knew what I was doing!
