Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
this! it seems like we live in a society where kids need to grow up as.soon.as.possible for whatever reason that they don't get much of a chance to be little. this is such a great thing to keep in mind not only when we're getting frustrated that they're not behaving "as they should be," but also when our mama hearts are getting sad at how fast they're growing up. what a beautiful way to hold on to our "babies" a little longer.

I would love to quote some of the original post to a facebook status. Would that be ok? Or no.

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
I loved this post when I first read it before applying for membership and now i get to thank you for this new perspective!
It helped me a lot with my dd1 being very clingy after the new baby arrived. I was saying to my dh and grandparents: it's OK for her to cry and need mommy, she is still a baby herself. I would also like to translate it to Romanian and share it on Facebook for others moms friends but also both grandmothers, if it's OK with you . Maybe adding a link to this post?

It is amazing how much I can still see this now that I am on my last "baby" who is almost 4 and now have a child who is nearing 13.

Thank you so vouch for your post. I am so looking forward to understanding my new little one and not rushing the need to grow up so fast.

I was once told to think of life as a yardstick... If you consider that the average person lived to be 80, even a 10yo is still a baby. <3

I love this thought. It's so true. Especially important to remember when you have a second child!

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
Neat! I worked in daycare for a number of years and have always viewed even 5 year olds as babies. They still need you so much emotionally as well as for physical needs. Glad to know that I was going in the right direction with this thinking.

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
We were just watching a Leave it To Beaver episode last week. There was a 4 yo that Wally and The Beav were taking care of, and she was referred to as "the baby" in the show. She was even in a playpen and did not really converse. Was that typical during that time, I wonder?

I do notice, though, when watching TV shows how young girls dressed so differently....short, short dresses with bloomer type bottoms and ruffled bobby socks, until they were 7 or so years old.

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
This interesting thread makes me think of little Samuel in he Bible. Hannah broght him to to the priest Eli to serve The Lord in he Tabernacle. The Bible does not tell us how old Samuel was but it does tell Hannah remained home for several years untill Samuel was weaned. Would Hannah have left a little toddler to the care of an old man? I guess not. I suppose Samuel must have been at leas something we would call a pre-schooler.
