Can I can soup?
I made some really yummy beef stew yesterday and I was thinking how much my Great Grandma would like it. I'd like to send her some but packages take 3 days. Can I make it and can it? Would it change the texture/flavor in any way? TIA!

Re: Can I can soup?
I just found canningusa.com . It has some recipes for soup and stew and instructions on canning it, so perhaps you could do the same?

Re: Can I can soup?
I am sure you can....but with meat you need to pressure can it. You can find lots of great instructions/rules on line.

Re: Can I can soup?
My mom canned beef stew and vegetable soup with ground beef all the time. It does need to be pressure canned, though. Canning was a big part of our lives so of course we had more than one. I, on the other hand, can only can things that need to be heated up and sealed.

Re: Can I can soup?
It is very similar to boiling water canning...but you have to have a pressure canner. The instructions are always....a certain time at a certain pressure. Basically it is a HIGHER heat and HIGH pressure to seal it and KILL all the bad stuff.

Re: Can I can soup?
I have canned (pressure canned) veggie/turkey/rice stews and chili. I LOVE canning! There are few things as rewarding as siting in your living room listening to the "pop, pop" of sealing jars.

Re: Can I can soup?
Are pressure canners expensive?
I have made jelly and that pop sound is exciting! I would just love to have a pantry full of soup to open up when we are feeling sick. We don't do many convenience food bc of allergies so I would love to be able to make my own.

Re: Can I can soup?
Pressure canners aren't that pricey. I paid less than $50 for mine.
