My Son ate an Acorn
Are they poisonous?
I can't believe he did that. He said the other kids "dared him" to eat it. He also said he wanted to see what it tasted like and to be able to say he had eaten an acorn. I will talk to him about good judgement and not being foolish to take dares, but is he in danger?

Re: My Son ate an Acorn
From what I can tell from a quick search, it is poisonous in large quantities. Give him some activated charcoal if you have it. If you don't, get some for the future, it's great for gas. If he is not complaining of a tummy ache, he's probably fine. You should probably call the poison center, yourself, though. I really don't know much.

Re: My Son ate an Acorn
I agree that a call to Poison Control wouldn't hurt
I don't think they're poisonous in small quantities, though. I definitely ate some as a kid

Re: My Son ate an Acorn
People turn acorns into flour for eating..... but maybe they do something to it? I can't imagine he is the first kid to eat an acorn date or not, but call if it will reassure you

Re: My Son ate an Acorn
There's a huge amount of soaking involved, I think. To get the tannins out, or something.
