Re: Have you DIYd a wool cover/longies?
I don't have a tutorial I follow I might could take pictures as I do it this week.
The steps I do are Find a pair of pants that fit the kid. Fold them in half and then lay them on the sleeves of the sweater Add extra for sewing and cut out the shape of the pants Put one sleeve in side the other with right sides together Sew the crotch seam together Pull the now leggs of the pants apart. I like to zig zag the top edges Fold over the top of the Pants over elastic, or you could see it and then add elastic or you could use fold over elastic I will try to get pictures taken

Knit love's idea is exactly what I did and it worked great. Our house is cold and ds had a bunch of these when he was a baby.

Re: Have you DIYd a wool cover/longies?
I can't find the tutorial I used. Basically I washed the sweater to felt it, cut it per the patterns suggestions and sewed. I like it but not as much as the ones I've bought

This tutorial looks helpful: https://laughingfoxcrafts .wordpress.com/2014/03/25/diy-longies-from-recycled-wool-sweater-sleeves/
Another: http://somedaysarah .ca/2012/06/how-to-make-recycled-longies/ And one last one - I might like this one best: http://gigglesfluff. blogspot.com/2012/11/upcycled-wool-longies.html

Re: Have you DIYd a wool cover/longies?
I used to make a top and a bottom out of one large sweater. The pants I would do exactly like knitlove, and the top I would do in a similar way with a shirt that fit them at the time... using the extra along the sides at the bottom (where there was usually ribbing) to make the sleeves. They were so cute and cozy. mmmm.... babies in woolies... must. refrain.
Editing to add... for just plain diaper covers, I actually liked woven wool much better than knit wool. I would use old suits or shirts to upcycle. It was a lot trimmer than knit, and I could sew it double layered so the serged edges were inside and then flip it around and topstitch.

Just make sure to not skimp on the rise. That can always be folded down, but you can't really add more to the rise (easily) if you make it too short.
