sewing machines & activity patches
I've always hand stitched those awful plastic-backed patches to my kids' uniforms (AWANA, Scouts, etc.) I have some patches to apply right. now.
My supplies include: hem tape, clear thread & a sewing machine. I can do it by hand, but I don't wanna. My whole life I've been irrationally fearful of the needle breaking while sewing. Dare I try this with a regular needle in the machine or do I need a special one? Or do I not even use the machine?

Re: sewing machines & activity patches
Our Boy Scout patches broke my hand needles last time I tried. We ended up buying something called Badge Magic from the scout store...it's an iron-on adhesive. It can be removed by dry cleaning if you ever want to pass the shirt down to a sibling minus the older siblings patches. It worked well and quickly and no needles broken, and I didn't have any problems getting it stuck to anything else since it was heat-activated.

Re: sewing machines & activity patches
Badge Magic was recommended by our leader, but that stuff is hard to track down. I mustered up the courage & did this batch with the machine.

Hunh, I've never seen it anywhere like WalMart , but we have a scout store where you have to buy the uniforms and books, and it's prominently sold there.

Re: sewing machines & activity patches
I use my machine, with the same weight needle I use when sewing denim and invisible thread. I go around the inside of the border of the badge.

Re: sewing machines & activity patches
Yup, Badge Magic. I don't use it for scout stuff but my kids Kung Fu stripes. Works great. No iron needed. Just cut, peel, stick. I found it at my local scout supply store at the recommendation of a friend.
