Default Too young for the Ergo?

I have been using a Moby wrap for my 2 1/2 month old but would like to use the Ergo because it is just so much easier to get on and off. So, I put my baby in the front position (tummy to tummy, without the insert) and her head seems fine because she is down so far in it that her head rests against the back. She has pretty good head control anyway. She cried at first but then fell asleep, so it must not be that uncomfortable. But it looks like she is doing the splits in it. It pushes her legs so far out! Is this just how the Ergo is or is it because she is too young? She's a big 2 1/2 month old-about 15-16 pounds. I know the Ergo site says something about using it without the insert at 4 months of age? When did you all start and do you think she is too young?

The insert puts baby in a cradle position.
Tummy to tummy is great for this age- but his legs should be crossed in front of him froggy style.

I have her legs out like this in the Moby too, but it doesn't spread them as far. Should I not be doing this either?

Edited to add-When she was a newborn, she had her legs curled under her in the Moby, but it seemed like they just kind of naturally started to come down.

Yikes! I didn't see or read anything about using either carrier like that. Anyone else hear anything? How do you all use yours?

Ollie has been riding in the Ergo since he was teeny tiny (okay, so he was never really teeny tiny) quite young. He rode facing in, with his feet frogged in front of him. He still rides like that on DH's back, and he's 5 months. When I do a back carry with him, his legs are out.

I bought an ergo around 5 months I think, with an insert just incase she needed it. I tried it, but found it a pain. May have been cause she was so old already. She did fine at 5 months. I guess slipping out the side would be my concern if baby was younger.

The side straps should keep the baby from sliding out.

really? I thought you could put legs out whenever baby seemed ready? we keep DS's legs out in a tummy-to-tummy position in a Moby because he doesn't seem to want to tuck them anymore. he's not quite 3 mos.

Ds2 is 5 months now and we just started leaving his legs out this month in the Ergo. He hated having his legs froggy style! So, we just had him tummy to tummy in the slings until now.

Well, Dd2 does not like the Ergo right now. She hated froggy style in any carrier and doesn't like the Ergo anyway I try it. She does fine in the Moby with her legs out though. I hope we like the Ergo eventually. It was a gift, but that is a lot of $ if I don't use it!

You'll use it! I absolutely adore mine and both of my sons have loved it once they were big enough! Plus, it's the main carrier that dh uses!

Its my dh's favorite as well. I want to sell mine and get a cuter SSC with the money, but I know I'll need to keep one Ergo (we have two) for dh.
