Getting a moldy mildew-y smell out of wood furniture
Ideas? I got this little cabinet out of the trash a year or so ago. It is really cute, but the inside reeks of mold. I have tried some mainstream cleaners like Simple Green and also lots of tea tree oil. But it still smells just as bad. I guess I know why it was out for the trash

Maybe seal it with Kilz oil-based primer? Or maybe a few coats of polyurethane to keep the wood color, but IDK if that would work for sure.

Unfortunately once mold gets into wood it's difficult if not impossible to really get rid of it.
You could try cleaning with vinegar and putting it out in the sun.

Re: Getting a moldy mildew-y smell out of wood furniture
I've had long term success with diluted bleach when the mold was only on the outside of the wood. If it has permeated the wood, I don't know if there's any way to salvage it. And mold will spread to your other things.

Re: Getting a moldy mildew-y smell out of wood furniture
It seems to be only the inside that has the mold. The outside doesn't smell but the inside stinks. I may try bleach or maybe paint. Or maybe it's back to the trash..
