Never ending virus?
Ds1, since he was a tween, has had trouble with just being...I don't know...viral, I guess, particularly in his throat. His throat consistently is sore and swollen, sometimes with pustules, but he is almost always negative for strep. Recently he's been breaking out in hives. His eating has not changed.
The pediatrician has not been helpful; ds1 was referred to the dermatologist for the hives. He has a history of anxiety and I know his immune system is probably a mess from all the stress he suffered when he was still seeing xh; he has since had no contact for 2.5 years. Now, he is a teen boy. He will be open to natural remedies if they aren't awful-tasting and don't require too much effort. Any ideas?

Re: Never ending virus?
For my dd1, those symptoms were seasonal allergies. BUT she responded negatively to traditional allergy testing. Thankfully our ENT told us to get treated by our functional doctor (they know each other).
She’s been doing LDA successfully for about 18 months and her reliance on meds drops every few months. My suggestion is that you try a daily allergy med for 14-21 days to see if it improves or goes away. But keep in mind many allergic people need more than one med (at her max, dd was taking 2 24 hr Allegra, 2 nasal sprays - one of which was special ordered by the ent because nothing else worked — compounded and extremely strong. Even with all that she took mucinex several times a day and are turmeric honey for her throat. That’s another option - to have him eat turmeric mixed w honey. Or turmeric tea. Once you know if it’s allergies there are many natural ways to try to treat it but at least you would know it’s actually allergies vs viral. And my dd’s Immune system was also a mess from stress. The LDA kinda fixes that.

Re: Never ending virus?
He does have seasonal allergies, and takes Zyrtec, but this happens year round. Could it still be allergies?

Re: Never ending virus?
While you can get hives from a virus, it’s most likely allergy related. My son has inflamed ears, nose and throat year round but doesn’t get viruses very easily. I feel like when everything is already inflamed it just blurs the line to know wether sick or allergy.
With hives it’s a pretty big sign the allergy bucket is overflowing. Some people can get stuck like that if their body doesn’t get the chance to catch up and deal with the excess histamine. Here is what I told a friend who recently had hives for 4 mo and it worked for her. Hives can take two weeks to go away even if you are treating it around the clock. One antihistamine often isn’t enough. Take a 24 hour one like zyrtec AND Benadryl as often as you can stand to. If it makes you super drowsy that will just be at night but if you can stand it you should take several doses in the daytime too. Sometimes if allergies are really bad it won’t make you tired even if it normally does. You also need an H2 blocker like Zantac morning and night. This works on histamine a different way than H1 blockers like Benadryl or Zyrtec. Both types of med together are far more effective than either type alone. Even doing this diligently it can take up to two weeks to resolve completely. That’s how long it took for C. Drinking lots of water can help eliminate excess histamine as well. Re: Never ending virus?
Yes to what Amy said.
For many one 24 hour allergy med isn’t enough. Two of my kids take 2 meds year round due to indoor and outdoor allergies. Plus nasal sprays 3 out of 4 seasons. A few of the coldest months and we can manage with one med if they change sheets and dust regularly .
